Celebrating Active Victorian Women

VicHealth’s newest campaign, This Girl Can – Victoria, is celebrating Victorian women who are all kinds of active. It doesn’t matter if you’re a newbie or a regular, how red and sweaty your face gets, or even if you know all the rules – all that matters is you’re giving it a go.

We know that women participate less than men in physical activity and sport. Half of Australian women don’t exercise enough. And one in five women do no physical activity in a typical week. Sadly, women also worry more than men about being judged when they exercise, meaning they’re twice as likely to worry about being unfit, not being able to keep up or being a beginner.

That’s why This Girl Can – Victoria features everyday Victorian women of all shapes, sizes, backgrounds and abilities to show that you can get out there and get active too. By sharing our stories we can help other women understand that we all worry – but this doesn’t have to stop us from doing the things that we love.

Many of us feel like we’re being selfish when we prioritise ourselves – but it doesn’t have to be like this. Women have told us that the benefits they experience from getting active make them a better partner, mum, daughter, sister and friend.

So, whether you’re out there for the love of the game, for a little me-time, or for the friendships, This Girl Can – Victoria will be here cheering you on.

Join a global movement of women supporting women to get active with This Girl Can – Victoria. Be part of the conversation by following us on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter using #ThisGirlCanVIC, or find out more on the website.
