Premiers Active April

How to ace Active April

Been a while since you’ve had a hit? Why not take advantage of a free cardio tennis session or one hour of court hire?

Tennis Victoria is proud to offer one free hour of court hire at Melbourne Park or Albert Reserve for every person registered for Premier’s Active April. Grab a partner, friend, brother, sister, parent, colleague – anyone!

Also on offer is one free Fitbit Cardio Tennis session, which is a mix of cardio workouts combined with tennis activities. Guaranteed to get the heart rate up while having plenty of fun! The free session is available at any venue across Victoria that offers cardio tennis.

Jane (from Elwood) and Suzanne (from St Kilda) are regulars at Elsternwick Park Tennis Centre’s cardio tennis classes. They’ve got some top tips on how to get the most out of this fun new way to get your heart pumping…

What made you give Cardio Tennis a go?
Jane: My daughter had started doing cardio tennis at Elsternwick Park and encouraged me to give it a go! I played tennis when I was younger but hadn’t played for a while so cardio tennis was a great reintroduction to the sport.

Suzanne: I’m a mad tennis fan but had hardly played for years. I decided to give a cardio tennis class a go as a way back into tennis and now I absolutely love it. The staff here are great and make everyone feel motivated to keep coming back.

Did you go along to your first Cardio Tennis session with a friend?
Suzanne: No, we just came along by ourselves and got put in a class with other women. Everyone we’ve met has been really friendly, which makes the classes more enjoyable.

What are the reasons why you love Cardio Tennis?
Jane: Cardio tennis is a great workout, and it’s done in 60 minutes! It’s much more exciting than just going for a walk or jog, as you use lots of different muscles. I feel so much fitter now because of cardio tennis. The other bonus is its outdoors! If you’re not a fan of the gym definitely consider cardio tennis.

How do you make time in your day to be active?
Jane: It is easy when you commit to doing a cardio tennis class, as then you have locked in your exercise for the day. Because you are in a group class the motivation is always there to show up, as otherwise, you would feel as though you’re letting your classmates down.

What should Active April participants know before turning up to a Cardio Tennis session?
Max, cardio tennis coach: At Elsternwick Park the sessions are tailored to suit the tennis skills and fitness level of the group, to ensure everyone has a good but enjoyable workout. Cardio tennis is great for your health and a great way to get back into tennis if you’ve played in the past. You can combine cardio tennis with a coaching class to assist in getting your tennis skills back up to speed.
