Join Victoria’s giant Nature Treasure Hunt this Easter

Concerned your kids are in for a chocolate overload this Easter? Then head outdoors and join Parks Victoria’s Junior Ranger Nature Treasure Hunt in parks across the state during the Easter school holidays.

Active April Parks VicJoin a ranger at one of the many parks hosting the treasure hunts where kids and their families can discover amazing natural treasures including interesting bugs, creatures and plants. Families are encouraged to explore on their own for at least 30 minutes, taking photographs of their natural treasures and bringing them back to the ranger for discussion.

“Our parks are full of natural treasures, from tiny colourful bugs and bright fungi to a huge variety of birds, sea creatures and towering trees. We love seeing kids getting excited about the many natural wonders of the world, and the Nature Treasure Hunt is a perfect way to get them exploring and having fun outdoors,” says Roellen Gillmore, Parks Victoria’s Education and Interpretation Coordinator.

If you’re not able to get to a host park, you can still be part of the fun. Download the activity from the Junior Ranger website and head out with your imagination and sense of adventure on a nature treasure hunt in a park near you.

Find other activities running over the school holidays on the Junior Rangers website including: Rock-pool Ramble, Wildlife Detective, Flora Explorer, Rainforest Discovery, Mini-beasts, Secrets of the Sanctuary and more.

The Nature Treasure Hunt is being run to coincide with Nature Play Week and Premier’s Active April but remember this is a fun and easy activity to do with kids any time of year.

“There is growing evidence from research that is telling us just how vital it is to get kids outside and active in nature from an early age. We know that contact with nature is essential for children’s emotional, physical and spiritual health and wellbeing.”
